Fans of virtual links will want to plug in their PlayStations over the next few months and enjoy a few more rounds of online play with Everybody’s Golf.

Sony, who publishes the series, quietly announced on the PlayStation Store website that servers for the sports title would be taken offline on September 30, 2022. Players can get in all the online play they want until that date, and owners of the game will still be able to enjoy the single-player component indefinitely.

“Online servers for Everybody’s Golf will shut down on 30th September 2022,” announced Sony. “All online features (including online multiplayer modes) will cease on that date. You will still be able to play and enjoy the game in single-player offline modes.”

Everybody’s Golf is a long-running franchise of golf titles for PlayStation consoles, and even players unfamiliar with the name may have played it without knowing it. For a long time in North America, the series went under the name Hot Shots Golf and featured a more over-the-top art style and a bevy of guest characters from across the 1990s gaming scene. The release of Everybody’s Golf on PlayStation 4 unified the franchise across regions, but it seems like it may also be a swan song for the game.

Sony has consolidated its development efforts in recent years, focusing more on blockbuster hits like The Last of Us and less on pretty much everything else. Part of that has been the shuttering of many of its Japanese studios. Everybody’s Golf was co-developed by the now-defunct Japan Studio, so it’s possible that the series will not continue. At the very least, PlayStation 4 owners who were still enjoying the latest entry will now have to look elsewhere to score a hole in one online.
